Soon Going
03.30.04 (8:19 pm)   [edit]
Well I am off to Australia tommorow for the first time in 21 months, yeah! This is only my second entry for Indonesia. Sorry John and 栗原さ& #12435;!I promise to write more from now on. Well I don't know how much I will write in Australia?? Anyway at least I will write lots upon my return to here. I will also try to get photos organized. I sound like a politician with all these promises.

Dial up is sure slow.

sorry
03.27.04 (7:47 am)   [edit]
It has been so long since I blogged. It has been hard to get internet access for stuff like this anyway in that it wasn't really possible to access from the office for personal stuff. Anyway, the current internet deal for the Jakarta is 15 hours a month! I think that will be close to the top of the "to change" list.

Things have been going good here. I have a very nice apartment with a shared pool and gym in the grounds. Next week I start managing our Jakarata office by myself which will be good as the former Rep. was a bit hard to handle sometimes. Anyway I will write more about my adventures next week I promise!!!

Cooooommunication
03.10.04 (2:52 am)   [edit]
Well I had the big talk with the chief and all went surprising well. In fact it was an enjoyable conversation. I got the low down on everything I wanted to know but was able to express my dissatisfaction about her management style which she seemed to accept humbly!! Well there you go straightforward communication. Thanks JJ

I stayed up all night last night at the office to get finished a paper on peacebuilding policy that I have made for the organization. Stuff the contents it was 53 pages in length plus another 40 pages for the appendices! I am so tired now that I have to go home and go to bed. I have to buy a new computer for the wife tommorrw and give it to her friend who is going to Oz next week.

Saturday to Jakarta. Yeah. :D

slacker
03.07.04 (7:55 pm)   [edit]
Yes I've been slack with my blog lately. (Is slacker Australian English?? or is it used elsewhere too?) I spent most of the weekend working on this concpet paper for work and doing volunteer work for Amma's tour and new ashram here. With very little time for the handover left once I get to Jakarta I don't think I'm going to get a rest until Australia in April. :(

Communication! Thats one area of my life where there is room for improvement. JJ has been helping me big time with this one . I've got a meeting with the chief tomorrow and it is usually subtley confrontational but hopefully with new tools and a new attitude things should go better.

Reform
03.05.04 (3:05 am)   [edit]
I went to an all vegetarian Indian restaurant last night with the people in my section at work. It was a kind of going away (me to Indonesia, another on a shorter trip to Cambodia) and birthday celebration. We got talking about the organization and had lots of ideas for revitalizing it. The other 4 people in the team are really bright people and it was stimulating talking to them. We all got enthused about work and will probably talk to the boss about the team making a proposal for internal reform.

The organization is a good one but there is a lot of dissatisfaction toward the management style and lack of overall direction and focus. We need long term goals, greater awareness of the organization vision, mission and code of conduct, more open management, more opportunities to think creatively and opportunities for staff to grow professionally. The organization is still relatively young so maybe it is asking to much, but then again if this kind of healthy organizational culture can be established the organization can only benefit. :)

Drive
03.04.04 (6:53 pm)   [edit]
I missed a couple of days. Work has been full on and will be for the next week. My mind is now fully focused on writing a concept paper on peacebuilding for work. I like the feeling of having your life fully concentrated on one thing for a period. If it was all the time I would go nuts but having a clear goal, a ton of work and the drive and determination to get it finished and do a good job feels good. Lets GO. :P

Speaking Openly
03.02.04 (6:09 am)   [edit]
I just had a long international conversation with JJ about communications issues at work and it was great. Thanks alot man, you really give good advice about shit like this.

Its something that I've been trying to work on myself for a couple of years now I guess, and I think I have made some progress, but there is a long way to go. I want to be able to say more clearly, openly, honestly, directly and confidently exactly what I want and where I see there are problems in relationships.

There are some issues at work which need to be addressed especially before I head off to Indonesia. I plan to speak to the relevant people about my concerns and needs, while expressing my passion for the job and my professional attitude. I will go crazy if I don't at least make a big effort to do this before going away. Do it for youself Camster! :D

cured
03.01.04 (10:31 pm)   [edit]
After about 5 months of treatment I am now officialy cured of Hep A picked up in Afghanistan. Although I never felt really that bad apparently it was quite serious. Anyway its good to know my liver is back to health.

I can't think of anything to write now??!! :?
