Maybe this is in the FAQs but it says it will be down for 24 hours. Its already been down longer than that though. I am new at blogging so excuse the ignorance. I thought when I created this blog I could just tell my friends to look at www.camster.tblog.com and they would be able to access it just like like any other website. But whenever my friends enter the above URL on their computers they just get the tblog webpage. Does this mean that for my friends to see my website they have to become tbloggers too? How can I make my blog open to public access?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Japanese Scales
01.31.04 (12:10 am) [edit]
The other day I went and bought some scales to measure my body wieght. If your like I was and think that scales are a simple machine that you stand and a dial turns around through a window near your toes and simply tells you how much you weigh you'd be right, in most countries anyway. But not in Japan. THe scales I bought are amazing. First I have to pull up this handle piece connected by a spiral cord to the base and grip at arms length with both hands. The scales then go on to tell me my body fat, my internal organ body fat, my basic metabolism, my body-mass-index and the estimated age of my body. And of course my weight!
Well I bought one as I have been worried about my liver and apparently having a fatty liver can drag Hep A on. So I bought one and it told me that my body was 40! 40! 40! It has only been 35 years since my birth and this things says I have the body of a 40 year old.
I desperately tried to justify this by considering that it was a machine built for slightly built Japanese who live to 120 years old so a 40 year old body for a 35 yo is not too bad. But it was a boit of a shock to be honest. So I have been watching what I eat and trying to excercise more. I am determined to become a 35yo in a 35 yo body.

I've been reading a book on positive peacebuilding and its good stuff. All about focusing on the positive and using imagination to help people move toward a brighter future rather than getting them to focus on problems with the aim to solve them. I've really got to read more literature on peacebuilding. Maybe I'm reading too much Japanese stuff which is of course good for improving my Japanese but takes longer and there is not so much good stuff in Japanjese on peacebuilding anyway.
I slept late today then did meditation and went for a long walk in the park. I think my body has really gotten weaker after the Hep A because I couldn't excercise for so long. I walked for 2 hours non stop which I guess is pretty long but I really need a rest at the end. I don't think I would have needed a rest so much before. May be I'm just getting old though??

Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus : A Practical Guide for Improving Communication and Getting What You Want in Your Relationships by John Gray (Author) An oldish book which I have been thinking about reading for a while. Good easy to understand stuff. Now to test it!
Conflict, Humanitarian Assistance and Peacebuilding: Meeting the Challenges, Development and Peacebuilding Programme, Maria Lange & Mick Quinn, International Alert Available as PDF online at above link. Good work as always from International Alert. Some of it is already covered ground. The criticism of Do No Harm as being only not making things worse rather then doing good is not on track I think. CDA chose a bad name in calling their methodology Do No Harm because I think it does do actually good as well!

Cooperation not Mars
01.29.04 (5:40 pm) [edit]
The Russains have put in their two cents worth about Bish's space plan. Although they are also into spending of billions of dollars which could be better spent, or spending billions of others dollars, they at least want to encourage international cooperation and not unilateralism in spending billions of dollars. see this
16 nations are involved. Although costly this type of specialist cooperation is good for world peace. Obviously the people who build space craft are no idiots (in a sense anyway) and if they can work together on common project that no one country can do alone it increases mutual understanding.
If ya going to spend billions in space do it together as representatives of the world's citizens not as individual countries trying to dominate.

Mars! Stupid
01.29.04 (5:31 pm) [edit]
Is George the biggest fucking dickhead President ever or what!! The other day I read that he is aiming to send people to the moon again and then to Mars. As if the world needs Americans in space at the cost of hundreds of billions of dollars. The world's poor could eat properly with just a few billion dollars of spending. Is this guy fucked in the head or what.
He says that "It will improve American lives.. " How the fuck will it improve American lives? It wont at all. I'm sure that American lives could be improved better with education and health funding. They say they want to elimninate terrorism. Why not spend a few billion dollars with extra ODA funding to Muslim nations. You would improve American and the world's lives.
The Chair of the House Science Committee's Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee saying "America is not going to remain at peace, and we're not going to remain the most prosperous nation, and we're not going to remain a free nation, unless we remain the technological leader of the world," he said. "And we will not remain the technological leader of the world unless we are the leaders in space."
What a fucked up argument. America and the world would be much more at peace with some wise spending. America is not as free a nation as it thinks beyond its borders. Americans are scared to travel in many parts of the world becauseof the fear of terrorism. It can become more free, peaceful and respected world leader through creating a fairer and just world for all. Sending people to the moon and Mars will do nothing but further alienate the rest of the world.
Why do I bother working in aid when arrogant bellicose fuckwits like Bush have so much power.

Security is not achieved like this!
01.29.04 (5:27 pm) [edit]
The theme, GW Bush. The man is an idiot. Check this great site out. Maybe you have heard of this short ad competition about getting rid of Bush. http://www.bushin30seconds.org/" title="http://www.bushin30seconds.org/" target="_blank"http://www.bushin30seconds.or... :D
After announcing plans to send men to the moon and Mars, he announced a 9% increase in Homeland (did you ever hear this word before 9/11?) Security. 2004 to 41.3 billion dollars. This is another huge amount of money. while democrats were critical of the space folly announcement, in regard to the increase in security spending they say it is NOT enough. :x

Not too comfortable?
01.29.04 (4:38 am) [edit]
|
I named the blog [not too comfortable] because I don't think life should be too comfortable for it to be happy. Too much comfort in terms of soft beds, soft jobs, soft TV, soft conversation, soft minds, soft attitudes, soft shit is not going to make you happy just a lazy blob. Having fun, enjoying life is wonderful but too much softness will turn you into a jellyfish in the great ocean life and you will just drift along with the tide to death.

せっかくだから
01.28.04 (9:40 pm) [edit]
:D Well since I've started I may as well write something. I originally started writing because a family friend encouraged me to write down some of my experiences I have overseas due to the nature of my work. I was in Afghanistan for 3 months last year and before that Sierra Leone. I was supposed to go to Iraq but I have been sick with Hep A which I caught in Afghanistan. This has kept me in Tokyo where I have been trying to get the NGO community here to take more seriously the issue of peacebuilding through being involved in the setting up of a study group. Things are going OK and we have are having our second set together in Feb. I am the Chair and the venue is my workplace. I want to try to get things in order and a framework for the group established at this next meeting so I have been going around doing the "Nemawashi" or concensus building with main people in the group.
I spoke to the boss yesterday. I asked if I could go with him to Iraq early next month but he said no because of my still slightly sick liver and because the purpose of the trip doesn't really suit my work which is peacebuilding.
I did remind him that with the wife and kids in Australia now that I was more able to be sent abroad for long periods and he said that I will be sent somewhere in MArch most likely. Anyway until then I'll have to enjoy Tokyo's sunny cold winter.

I am still playing around with this. I have been writing to my friend John by email just to improve my writing expression and get in to the mode of writing more often. So far only limited success.
